What is Composite Bonding?

Composite Bonding Objectives
Composite bonding is suitable for:
- Chipped teeth.
- Cracked teeth.
- Staining on individual teeth (can be combined with teeth whitening).
- General wear.
- Improving the size and shape of your teeth.
- Producing a makeover (up to 6 of your top teeth can be treated).
Why Patients Love Composite Bonding
Single Appointment Treatment
Composite bonding is quick and easy to complete, taking just one appointment lasting on average 3-4 hours (treating a single tooth can take as little as 1 hour).
Fully Customised Treatment
The cosmetic outcome is whatever you wish it to be – whether you’re looking for a ‘Hollywood’ smile or you’re after more natural-looking results, our talented dentists can meet and exceed your expectations. Your treatment will be carefully planned, and your dentist will make sure you are happy with the proposed shaping and shade-matching for your new smile.
Minimally Invasive
Composite bonding is free from drilling and anaesthesia (in the vast majority of cases).
Results We Know You’ll Love
The properties of composite resin are incredibly tooth-like, particularly the way it can closely mimic the translucency and light of real tooth tissue.
Your Patient Journey
Consultation
If you are new to the practice, a full dental examination will need to be completed, including a set of X-rays. Any evidence of dental decay and gum disease will need to be resolved prior to cosmetic treatment, such as composite bonding.
Your dentist will study your smile to identify how to enhance it using the composite bonding method. They will explain the proposed changes to your smile and confirm these with you.
Treatment Appointment
Composite resins matched to your tooth shade are gradually applied to your tooth and moulded into place. The resins are cured, and a UV light is used to set them firmly in place. The tooth is then polished to ensure the resins have a tooth-like texture and shine.
FAQs
Can I get composite bonding and teeth whitening together?
This treatment combination is popular amongst patients who are looking for a smile shade makeover and who wish to make alterations to the shape of individual teeth.
Teeth whitening will precede composite bonding, as composite resin cannot be altered with whitening gel. Once your teeth are at a shade you are happy with; your dentist can plan your composite bonding treatment, matching the resins to your newly whitened teeth.
Composite Bonding or Porcelain Veneers – Which do I need?
Composite bonding is performed during one appointment and can tackle minor and moderate imperfections with individual teeth.
Meanwhile, veneers are more sustainable and aesthetically similar to real tooth enamel as they are made from porcelain. Veneers require multiple appointments, and a small amount of tooth enamel will need to be removed before they can be placed. They are recommended for patients with more conspicuous imperfections.
Whilst composite bonding lasts an average of 4-9 years, veneers can last 10 or more years.
Do I need to have straight teeth prior to composite bonding?
Moderate to severely misaligned teeth should be straightened prior to composite bonding for optimal results. Here at Creffield Lodge Dental, we offer a range of teeth straightening treatments, including Invisalign®.
Small gaps in your teeth can be addressed with composite bonding.
