Digital X-Ray System

schick-x-ray-systemWe have installed the ‘Schick’ digital x-ray system in James Mehta’s and Dr Naz’s surgeries. Integrated to our computer network it has revolutionised our radiography and brings us into the 21st Century.

Some of the advantages are:

  • No more waiting for x-ray films to be manually developed – pictures appear in approx 5 seconds! We can easily show you the problem!
  • Patients no longer have to phone in for x-ray results
  • Reduced radiation exposure for patients (up to 60% reduction in some cases)
  • Better picture quality
  • Reduced environmental impact – we no longer have to dispose of potentially toxic developing chemicals, or the lead backings in traditional x-ray film
  • The x-ray images can be manipulated electronically for enhanced diagnostic ability
  • No more lost x-rays as images are filed electronically
  • The images can be printed or emailed when we refer patients to specialists
  • The developing process is completely removed, often a source of inconsistency and error

We always minimise patients’ exposure to x-rays and will only take them when necessary and when the benefits outweigh any potential risks. We follow guidelines issued by the Royal College of Surgeons, and ‘routine’ x-rays are taken at anything from annually to three yearly intervals.

X-rays allow us to recognise problems very early, often before the lesion is visible to the naked eye and before the tooth is painful. Also any necessary treatment is likely to be less extensive and costly.

Our digital x-ray system is state-of-the-art – ask for a demonstration when you see your dentist.

Dental Fees

dental-feesPrivate dental fees are set according to the degree of difficulty a particular procedure, and the time required to complete it.

Therefore prices will vary from one case to another.

  • New client examination: £80 (includes some x-rays)
  • Routine adult examination: £25
  • New child examination (any age): £20
  • Routine child examination under 6 years old: free
  • Routine child examination over 6 years of age: £15
  • Fillings: from £55
  • Extractions from £85

  • Crowns: from £485
  • Complete upper and lower dentures: from £750
  • Single tooth implants: from £2000
  • Cobalt-chrome partial dentures: from £750

In all cases we are happy to provide our clients with a written estimate of expected costs.

Alternatively you may wish to join Denplan. This is a private capitation scheme that allows you to budget for your dental treatment, and removes the worries of unexpected large bills.

We have schemes suitable for both adults and children. Prices start from £7 per month for children, whilst adults typically pay around £20 per month.

Please see the Denplan website for more details of the cover, and speak to a member of staff who would be pleased to arrange an appointment for an assessment.

Cosmetic Services

dentistsmileWe offer a wide range of cosmetic dentistry procedures which can dramatically improve your teeth and give you a smile you will be proud of. Below are some examples of the procedures that we offer.

Bleaching: If you think your teeth are too dark or discoloured we can lighten them by bleaching. This simple technique is carried out at home, is pain free, and can produce results that are not only dramatic, but long lasting as well.

Hygienist: Do your gums bleed, or look red and swollen? Do you get a bad taste in your mouth? Modern gum treatment and regular visits to the hygienist can help you achieve trouble free healthy gums. Early detection leads to easier and simpler treatment.

Bridges and implants: If you have missing teeth, the spaces can be filled with bridges or implants. Dental implants are the modern way to replace missing teeth and can provide a longer-term solution and preserve nearby healthy tooth tissue. Dental implants are so natural-looking and feeling, you may forget you ever lost a tooth! The main condition for implants is to have good bone condition. Patients with heart disease, renal failure, hypertension or who smoke may not be suitable.

Composite restorations: If you have old stained fillings that are visible when you smile, we can make them almost invisible with tooth coloured composite restorations.

Crowns: Do your teeth keep breaking? We can crown them to make them stronger and better looking. A crown is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth. Crowns are an ideal restoration for teeth that have been broken, or have been weakened by decay or a very large filling.

Mouth guards: If you play contact sports regularly we can supply a custom-made mouth guard (gum-shield) to protect your teeth from damage. You can even choose your team colours!

Veneers: A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth. Veneers are undetectable and can disguise unsightly, discoloured or misshapen teeth and produce a very realistic and immediate effect giving your teeth a natural and healthy look. They also resist staining and chipping better than ordinary fillings.

We can provide natural looking dentures for improved appearance and bite that are stronger, tighter, less damaging to your gums and more comfortable to wear, and if suitable, we may also be able to anchor them with implants.
